Scorpio Season Filmscopes

A collaborative horoscope for Scorpio Season by Aryn the Alchemist & Adriana the Death Alchemist.

The zodiac wheel is a cinematic universe of symbols, vibes and associations with colors, animals, plants, planets and places. As an astrologer who is also an artist, I don’t just think about Mars and Scorpions while working with Scorpio energy. My mind dives to the bottom of the ocean, stews in a steamy swamp, and hangs upside down with bats in a dark cavern.

I’m not sure if other astrologers play mini movies in their mind’s eye when working with signs and planets and houses, but incorporating cinema into interpretations deepens our relationship with this ancient system. From this lens, the archetypes and symbols of astrology aren’t distant landscapes we look at from our perspective on Earth; they become embodied stories that we carry in our bodies, hearts and minds.

I asked Adriana, @thedeathalchemist on Instagram, to collaborate on this Scorpio season horoscope by suggesting films for each of the twelve zodiac signs. Adriana’s work seamlessly weaves death doula work with her love of film. Each movie featured was thoughtfully selected by Adriana, based on my written horoscopes.

Before we embark on this journey, I want to set the stage. The Sun moves into Scorpio on October 23rd, 2025. In states that observe daylight savings time, the clocks move backwards one hour on November 2nd. In the Northern Hemisphere, Scorpio season coincides with less light, more dark; very fitting for the gothic vibes of the black Scorpion. A Full Moon in Taurus on November 5th highlights the reality that Venus needs Mars’s sharpness just as much as Mars needs Venus’s pillow forts. Uncomfortable breakthroughs need soft places to land if they’re going to stick.

Venus leaves its glamorous, floral-scented home of Libra on November 7th to enter the dark cherry halls of Scorpio. Mercury and Mars will spend some time studying the macabre in the immense library of Scorpio’s dark academia-coded home, but shed their exoskeletons in late October and early November.

For the majority of the Sun’s sojourn into the underworld, Mars, Scorpio’s traditional planetary ruler, will be in Sagittarius. Sagittarius doesn’t pay attention to “No Trespassing signs.” It’s an archetype that seeks, experiences, and lives in the moment. It encourages Scorpio to retract its claws and sink into more than one fixation.

Mercury stations retrograde in Sagittarius on November 10th, 2025 and a day later, Jupiter in Cancer does the same. With Saturn and Uranus also retrograde during this time, timelines trickle like molasses. Mercury will meet up with the Sun and Moon in Scorpio during the New Moon on November 19th. Three days later on the 22nd, the Sun trapezes into Sagittarius.

Horoscopes are meant to be read as a singular thread to add to your tapestry. Just as you are not just your Sun or rising sign, horoscopes aren’t expansive enough to fill your entire cup. But they can be a starting point, a finger pointing towards a theme or idea you would have missed otherwise. Read for your rising sign, but if you don’t know that, your sun sign will do. You’re welcome to watch all the films suggested, not just the one for your signs.

Aries Rising

If you want to expand, you’re going to have to release your grip. Scorpio season can feel like sticking your hand in murky water and praying for the best. But what if it was an adventure instead of an obligation? This season’s lunation will spark your awareness about your resources for the journey. If you’re worried about having enough, just remember that part of the excitement is meeting allies along the way who can offer you supplies that you didn’t even think you needed.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Where The Wild Things Are (2009) adapted from author and illustrator Maurice Sendak’s 1963 book of the same name. Where do you go when you feel misunderstood? Who do you turn to when home feels stifling or as if it has its claws in you? Where The Wild Things Are is about remembering your feral, childlike, and imaginative nature - not to escape - but in order to return with a full cup and fresh perspective. What can you learn while on the road, meeting those who are both different and similar to you, and re-wilding what control has snuffed out?

Taurus Rising

Relationships are always a mirror. Sometimes, they reflect parts of ourselves we don’t want to acknowledge and refuse to integrate. What are the stakes when you shrink from projections that freak you out? The Full Moon in Taurus and New Moon in Scorpio can reveal both where you’re content and where there’s contention. Don’t be afraid of asking for what you need and being real about how you can support others.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Blue Valentine (2010) starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling depicts a heart-opening and heartbreaking connection between two people who seem to begin drifting apart almost as soon as they come together. In what ways do you feel that you are not “keeping up” with those you love? In what ways are you not showing up for yourself in order to do so? What promises are you breaking, and in turn, breaking your own heart? Blue Valentine is blinding, honest, sexy, and brutal. Full transparency: I have only seen this film once! Not for the faint of heart.

Gemini Rising

There is so much magic woven into daily life, because routine is ritual. But it takes a conscious eye to see these invisible connections. What are the dreams you’re threading into the small moments? Who are the people you love to imagine possibilities with? Your collaborations–with humans, with nature, with ancestors–can be infused into mundane tasks like running errands, cleaning your space, gathering over coffee or tea. This Scorpio season, pay attention to minutiae and see how it impacts you in big ways.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Perfect Days (2023) invites you into the simple life of Hirayama, a public toilet cleaner. This film, written and directed by Wim Wenders, offers a much needed reminder that life can be both monotonous -  boring even - and absolutely majestic and breathtaking. What would it be like to wake up in someone else’s shoes? What would you learn about yourself and how you interact with the world around you? Perfect Days allows us to do just that.

Cancer Rising

When was the last time you did something just for the fun of it? For you, pleasure and play may not be flippant. Your desire runs deep. This season, you may feel called to excavate your innermost appetites. Don’t forget to do the work in the safety of your community, as your connections with others can offer valuable perspectives, comfort and camaraderie. What would flower if you saw little treats with friends as a non-negotiable part of your routine?

Adriana’s Film Rec: The Menu (2022) starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes is a dark comedy that invites us into a space of the uber wealthy and showcases how passion can quickly turn dangerous when joy is not prioritized. What can you garner from a famous (and slightly broken) chef that has been trained to believe that their wholesome love of food is off limits? How can being a vulnerable and grease-loving guest help reflect your humanity and possibly save your life?

Leo Rising

Trees can communicate with each other through fungal networks and overlapping roots. What would they whisper to you if you placed your ear to the ground? This Scorpio season warms the hearth of your home, past and lineage. Working with this part of your chart can be both cozy and uncomfortable, depending on how you relate to your root systems. In moments of overwhelm, turn to artful play and creative processing to help you move through the sludge.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Frida (2002) Did you know? Frida Kahlo was a Leo rising herself. Starring Salma Hayek, Frida offers an exploration into the artist’s painful past and how she was able to shift her ongoing experiences through creating masterpieces, relationships, and nourishing the raices (roots) of local and global community. What can you learn from Frida’s complex and controversial place in the art world? How can you apply this to your own personal world and familial systems?

Virgo Rising

Where are the places that feel like home that aren’t literally your home? Scorpio season intensifies your sense of place, reminding you that belonging is a feeling you carry with you. The Full Moon in Taurus could inspire you to view everyday scenes like the local grocery store, coffee shop and crosswalks as sources of unexpected inspiration. Expansion doesn’t always mean leaving the nest; sometimes it means rooting deeper into where you already are.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Past Lives (2023) written and directed by Celine Song, is not your average drama with romantic elements. This film will leave you thinking about not only your place in the world, but the pieces of yourself that you have left behind that are perhaps still being carried by others. Is the saying true? Can we never really go home? Or is it possible that we create a sense of home and belonging no matter where we may go? Past Lives is slow, intentional, bittersweet, mystical, and captivating. Be sure to have tissues nearby.

Libra Rising

Depending on your relationship with self-esteem, Scorpio season can feel like a salve or salt in a wound. What you value in life is intimately intertwined with how you resource yourself, both financially and emotionally. How does it feel to give yourself permission to receive instead of always being the one offering? Is that uncomfortable or exhilarating? Maybe a bit of both? The lunation during Scorpio season may inspire you to lean on kindness and help from your friends, your neighbors and even strangers.

Adriana’s Film Rec: The Worst Person in the World (2021) is a film about love, but beyond this, it is a film about who we are in love and how this shapes who we become in life. “I always worried something would go wrong, but the things that went wrong were never what I worried about.” The Worst Person in the World is an exploration of the self and the universal feeling of being both lonely and lost. Who do we turn to in these times? What thoughts rule our minds? How does this influence the relationship we have to ourselves, each other, and the world?

Scorpio Rising

When the Sun passes over the Ascendent, or rising sign, it can feel like a personal New Year. This can be an energizing time that may be marked by a sudden desire to switch up an aspect of your appearance. As Mercury traverses the liminal space between how you resource yourself and how you outwardly express yourself, pay attention to any self-esteem wounds that rub against personal value systems. How you talk to yourself, especially in moments of tenderness, can reveal a lot about where you need to offer yourself some extra TLC.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Black Swan (2010) starring Natalle Portman and Mila Kunis is an intensely charged look into the world of ballet and how performance art is an opportunity to be transformed from the inside out - for better or for worse. Black Swan asks the viewer to analyze your own motivations and be honest about just how willing you are to rise to the challenge and become who you are afraid of. What happens when we lose control and allow a harnessed chaos to take over for a moment? How can we learn to dance with our demons and be reborn?

Sagittarius Rising

As planets in Scorpio illuminate the most subconscious part of your chart, you may feel more sluggish than usual. This isn’t a bad thing; if anything, it’s a great excuse to relax, recuperate and sift through what remains unprocessed and un-tended to. How does this excavation impact your self-expression? How you present yourself may be under review as Mercury initiates its retrograde in your house of self before pirouetting back into the shadows of your innermost mind.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Waking Life (2001) written and directed by Richard Linklater is a film that blurs the lines between dreams, reality, and what we believe to be real in both the physical and spiritual realms. The philosophical back roads and alley ways that you may find yourself walking down while watching may feel dizzying to some, but isn’t that where Saggitarius truly shines? Not only in the exploration of life and existence through experience, but through studying and questioning.

Capricorn Rising

This Scorpio season may have you oscillating between wanting to retreat into the sanctuary of your creativity or putting yourself out there to connect with a like-minded community. Whichever your instinct, honor the parts of you that crave comfort as much as you celebrate the part that longs to explore the unknown. It may be helpful to prod at recurring dreams and synchronous signs through artistic mediums. Offer some compassion to the sensitive underbelly of your otherwise carefully curated self-image.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Synecdoche, New York (2008) starring the incredible Philip Seymour Hoffman is a film that feels more like a fever dream than a linear story. Where do you begin and where does another person end? While in pursuit of connecting with others and attempting to understand yourself better, one can easily forget about our own messy humanity. Synecdoche, New York is a reminder that not all is what it seems and this includes your sense of self and how you believed life (and art) could be.

Aquarius Rising

It may seem backwards, but sometimes identifying who you aren’t can help you figure out what really makes you tick. The Sun’s sojourn through the most visible part of your chart stirs up feelings about your purpose. What are you here to do? Are you honoring that calling? This doesn’t have to be a job or a prestigious title, but it does have to beckon your psyche enough that you’re willing to risk comfort for the sake of learning more.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) is a film that centers magical realism through the eyes of a little girl named Hushpuppy. How does our environment influence what truly matters to us, and just how much of our identity and purpose is tied to where our feet are planted? Beasts of the Southern Wild is an answer to the longing questions and fears surrounding climate change, but beyond this, it is an examination of how loss is felt and reflected both in nature and in our personal lives.

Pisces Rising

The Sun in Scorpio illuminates your relationship with possibility. What are you interested in learning more about? What sparks a fire in your chest? Learning for the sake of satiating your curiosity can be more fulfilling than sharpening the skills you’re expected to. The Full Moon in Taurus invites you to seek teachers locally, and they don’t have to be human either. What does a maple leaf or a squirrel preparing for winter have to teach you? You don’t have to sit in a classroom to build new neural networks; you can simply live and absorb.

Adriana’s Film Rec: Dead Poets Society (1989) starring Robin Williams is a classic that beckons you to sit with the cookie cutter nature of life…and what it is that actually makes you feel alive. Are you living on autopilot, and who, if anyone specific, taught you how? The trajectory of this film is both inspiring and devastating because that is exactly what life is. What do you have the ability to learn through lived experience, risk, vulnerability, curiosity, and connection?
